Michael Call

Michael Call is an associate professor in the Department of Humanities, Classics, and Comparative Literature. His research principally concerns 17th-century France and recently has focused on cultural representations of chance, risk, and determinism. Work on the theatrical portrayal of lotteries and the role of gambling at Versailles has also led to broader courses that examine the humanities’ exploration of probability and games as aesthetic objects that integrate design with more traditional artistic characteristics.
