Course Description: Examining the rich variety of ways in which democracies are designed across the globe. Relying on both theoretical and empirical perspectives, surveying the different rules for governance and representation, and their advantages and disadvantages for various, and often competing, goals, such as accountability, corruption, political violence, and economic development.
