Christopher Mattson

Chris Mattson loves creativity, design, and innovation. He loves to do it, he loves to experiment with new ways of doing it, and he loves to teach it. While he is passionate about all stages of product development including early-stage opportunity development to late-stage product refinement, his true love is in conceptual design and product engineering (the middle stages of product development). In short, he loves to design and engineer products that solve real problems. He is an associate editor for the Journal of Mechanical Design and a past editor for Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization Journal. He has published many technical papers, all centered on design techniques. He has received multiple national awards including one from the White House (PECASE Award), one from the National Science Foundation (CAREER Award), one from the Fulbright Commission (Fulbright Scholar Award), and multiple service awards from the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). He is currently an associate professor of mechanical engineering.
